ASGER BAY CHRISTIANSEN

Asger Light’s path to lighting goes through our founder, Master of Architecture Asger Bay Christiansen and his innovative and exciting approach to GOOD LIGHTING™.

Everywhere in Denmark you will find lighting systems that bear the distinctive fingerprint of Asger Bay Christiansen.

But who is this Asger Bay Christiansen? We will enlighten you here.

Upbringing and education

Asger Bay Christiansen was born in Copenhagen in Denmark in 1948 and became an educated architect in 1977.

Through many years of study, Asger Bay Christiansen has analyzed the connection between the room’s architecture, light, acoustics and materials, and through this he has gained great expertise and insight into the importance of light in all types of settings and buildings.

Early in his career, he sought out doctors and scientists with knowledge of how the human eye works, precisely to become an expert on how to create lighting on the eye’s premises.
The unusual combination of theoretical knowledge and design competence that Asger Bay Christiansen obtained is expressed in our unique design. Together with a team of doctors and optometrists, Asger Bay Christiansen has, among other things, carried out internationally recognized research into the eye’s reaction to different types of light sources.

With his wide range from theoretical and physiological knowledge to design and architecture, Asger Bay Christiansen remains a very superior profile in Danish design and lighting.

The architect

Since 1973, Asger Bay Christiansen has designed and manufactured his own Danish-designed, high-quality lamps. Now, it has advanced to more than 120 lamp-series with more than 7,000 lamp-options.

For Asger Bay Christiansen, lighting is a matter of knowledge, design and planning – and always seen in unity with the human body and senses. He has passed on a huge part of his knowledge regarding counselling on general lighting issues in order to create optimal lighting solutions in both public institutions, private companies as well as private homes. Architect and engineering colleagues to this day still use Asger Bay Christiansen’s designer lamps.
